The railway tracks were the shortest path up, so we decided to follow them for a while.
This is at the terminal station of the railway, at 2350 meters. A really touristic spot, a chance to meet women in high heel shoes after having climbed for many hours. At least we got a chance to refill our water bottles - for a price of 20 francs per bottle. Bruno offered to take a picture of me.
After a short break we left the station behind and headed towards the mountains.
The path got more rocky and small patches of snow started appearing. Climbing didn't require any experience, but decent hiking boots were a better choice than tennis shoes. We also had breaks more often to cope with the thinner air. It was fresh and pure, though.
We met a couple of friendly mountain goats. They didn't seem to have any difficulties while running around on the rocks.
At 2750 meters we were rewarded for our effort. A breathtaking view to the east, over the Chamonix valley.
This is from the same spot to the north. The sky was clear and we could see dozens of kilometers. What a great place to have lunch! We spent over an hour eating, chatting and enjoying the view.
Our group picture, from the left: Martin, Carlos, Jan, Bernardo, a special guest whose name I can't remember, Bruno, me, Dominik and Fabian.
There was also an empty abandoned cottage nearby, towards which we didn't pay much attention yet.
